Birch Aquarium's renowned lecture series is going virtual with engaging presentations on research conducted worldwide by scientists from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Scripps scientists are exploring Earth’s mysteries in hundreds of research projects underway on every continent. Learn about science at Scripps and join researchers on their paths to discovery.

The KelpCam
Dive below the waves with the Kelp Cam! Explore the Southern California Kelp Forest exhibit at Birch Aquarium and see how many local species you can spot! Check out Leopard Sharks, Garibaldi, Moray Eels, and our largest fish, the endangered Giant Black Sea Bass.
Seadragon Cam
Our Husbandry Team is known around the globe for their work with seadragons and seahorses and Birch Aquarium is one of the few aquariums to have ever bred Weedy Seadragons in captivity. Watch as our Weedy Seadragons — including the two babies that were born and bred at Birch — use camouflage to avoid predators. How many do you see hiding in the seaweed?

Virtual Summer Camps
Birch Aquarium Summer Camps are GOING VIRTUAL for a summer of learning fun! We have camp topics for children ages 5-10. Together we will play games, make crafts, do science, and of course meet awesome ocean animals! Virtual camp spots are still available.
Virtual After School Series
Based on the high demand for our virtual summer camp program, we are excited to announce the launch of our new virtual after school series program. Our new, multi-series will be offered in the Fall, Winter, and Spring for grades K-5. Two ocean educators will build upon kid’s curiosity, allowing them to join other learners as we explore ocean science in interactive and fun ways. Topics range from discovering ocean habitats and creatures to designing ocean engineering solutions.

Virtual Youth and School Group Programs
Birch Aquarium connects your students to our ocean planet through your favorite Birch Aquarium programs- now in a virtual format. Students can meet and observe organisms, explore and analyze data about changing conditions in ocean habitats, or ask questions about aquarium careers and current conservation issues. Our programs are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
