Youth Summer Internship for High School Students

As a Youth Summer Intern, you will help children and adults explore the wonders of marine science during their visit by interpreting our exhibits throughout the aquarium/museum.
Job Duties
- Greet, orient and provide information to guests
- Help make our simulated tide pool come alive for our visitors by demonstrating animal coping strategies
- Ensure visitor safety by politely enforcing rules and touch guidelines
- Conduct climate-related activities that compliments our Feeling the Heat climate change exhibition
- Handle live animals
- Interpret shark feeding strategies and assist with multiple activities during Shark Week
- Work with a diverse group of volunteers and staff in a fun environment
- Perform additional duties as needed
Requirements:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Have excellent communication skills
- Have ability to engage visitors of all ages
- Have a positive attitude
- Be punctual, reliable and flexible
- Be able to work as part of a team
- Have basic knowledge of biology with an interest in marine science and/or knowledge of marine science
- Take initiative and recognize tasks
- Be able to lift 15 pounds
- Be able to work indoors and outdoors

Your training will include:
- Birch Aquarium operation and program information
- Marine science content
- Interpretation/education methodology
- Customer service skills
Required Training & Internship Dates:Training is from June 22 – 26, from 1:00-5:00pm at Birch Aquarium. Internship dates are from June 29 – August 28.
Work Schedule:
Shifts will be pre-assigned for two days a week, Monday-Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm.
All volunteer and internship programs are unpaid.
