Birch Aquarium to participate in celebration of science
Birch Aquarium at Scripps is among more than three-dozen regional organizations participating in this year's San Diego Science Festival. The Festival will descend on San Diego in in March 2011 with free events for all ages throughout the county.
The largest celebration of science on the West Coast, held annually in
San Diego, promises to once again “excite the minds” of thousands of
students and their families March 19-26. In 2010, the San Diego
Science Festival engaged more than 75,000 students, parents, scientists, educators and other community members on the
importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics education.

SEA Days: Birds of the Sea
When: Saturday, March 19, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: Birch Aquarium at Scripps
Discover Science, Exploration & Adventure! Learn about amazing ocean-going birds and discover how adaptations allow them to survive in a watery world. Meet Scripps Oceanography scientists studying birds, learn about amazing migrations, and find out the best spots to catch a glimpse of these amazing creatures. Young adventurers can make a bird craft and listen to story time. Included with admission. More information.

When: Saturday, March 26; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Where: PETCO Park
This free final San Diego Science Festival event brings together more than
150 hands-on science activities and stage performances for people of
all ages and interest levels. Attendees will discover the wonder of our local kelp forests and make their own slime out of kelp; see actual DNA and perform
DNA extraction techniques; use their olfactory gland (nose) to identify
the organic molecules that create the flavors, aromas, and colors in
foods; get an up close look at the science of baseball; and put their
forensic skills to the test by solving a mystery, among other
activities. Free.
