EARTHQUAKE FAULTS
A strike-slip fault is vertical to the surface. Movement is horizontal. (The San Andreas is a strike-slip fault.) Replay animation A dip-slip fault is at an angle to the surface. Movement can be up or down. When rocks above the fault surface move down and rocks below the fault surface move up, the fault is called normal. When the opposite happens, the fault is called reverse. |
