DROP AND COVER
If you ever feel an earthquake, this is what you need to know. DROP to the floor, and get under something like a table or desk for COVER. Stay away from glass, windows, or anything that could fall, like a bookcase. If you are outside, move quickly to a clear area away from buildings, trees, or power lines.

This advice comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA has a website for kids.  An informative earthquake science and preparedness handbook, Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country," can be downloaded at: http://www.earthquakecountry.info/roots/
